How to Start Lessons
Stonegrove Guitar takes great pride in the teaching staff and facilities available for our students. Our belief is that each student with a desire to put the time in to learn their instrument will have success as a result of learning with our instructors. Currently, we offer acoustic and electric guitar, bass, and drum lessons.
Guitar and bass lessons are available six days a week Monday through Saturday.
Drum lessons are available Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Beginning March 7th, they'll also be available on Saturday afternoons.
Our instructors tailor lesson programs for each individual that comes through our program. However, we encourage you to keep in mind that one size DOES NOT fit all with private lessons.
Most students experience a thought-provoking mix of topics, including: music theory, guitar tablature, and learning popular music. We also enjoy adding an element of fun to the mix. Our goal is to keep lessons interesting and well worth the tuition costs. Our flexible instructors hope to help all of our students acheive their musical goals.
All Ages Instruction
We think that music is a skill that can be learned at every age – but we recommend that students and parents think about the expectations of the student for starting guitar, bass, or drum lessons versus the cost involved with a lesson. We find that the best age to start lessons is between the ages of 10 and 13. That being said, the only requirement to start lessons is reading – the music that we write and work on with you. We find that there is a much higher success rate once children reach age 10.
For any potential adult students – you’ll be happy to know that YES you can absolutely start to learn that instrument that you always wanted to play. We recommend that you find a day and time in your schedule that works best for lessons and also allow for private practice time. Also, remember, that instruments take time to learn – patience is the key to learning all instruments.
Tuition Rates
Lesson rates depend upon your instructor and level. Most instructors at our store charge $22.50 for a 30-minute lesson and some up to $30.00 for a 30-minute lesson. Tuition is due at the beginning of the month to reserve your time slot for the month with your instructor.
We have a “no returns/no makeup” lessons policy for missed lessons. This is due to the high volume of students and limited amount of time slots available for our instructors. Therefore, we encourage all students to carefully select the day and time of the week of their lessons when signing up. We also encourage you to communicate to us when a new lesson time is needed to accommodate your schedule – typically before a new month begins.
Stonegrove’s Most Successful Students…
Take the time practice at least five days a week for at least thirty minutes a day.Part of the lesson program will include teaching how to properly practice the instrument and focus. Touching the instrument is key, looking at it or only reading books will not help learn the instrument.
Keep their Instruments Maintained and in Working Condition
Instruments require minimal maintenance to stay in proper working condition. Guitar strings need to be changed at least seasonally, acoustic guitars need more humidity in the winter times, and drums need new heads and new sticks from time to time. Our store can assist with all of your repair needs and even teach you how to maintain your instrument!
Universal Tools that Help Every Musician:

For Guitarists and Bassists: An electronic tuner is a great tool to have. Practicing and playing in tune helps enhance your skills and develop your ear quickly. For current orchestra and band students, our tuners may work with your instrument. Call or stop by the store. Our most popular tuner is under $20 and always in stock at our store.
For Drummers: Always have a drum key to tune those drums up at home. Your instructor can teach you how to voice the pitch of your drums. Additionally, remember that the feel of the drums changes depending on the amount of tension on the drums.
All students: Learn to play in time with the music you are playing – purchase a metronome. Metronomes play a friendly beep or click and can help you keep tempo while learning your new song. Nobody wants to play in a band with someone that can’t keep time, and audiences can’t dance without steady rhythm!
Lastly, develop a simple habit that will keep your instrument clean: Wash your hands before you play your instruments.
For the guitar players, it will keep your finish looking clean and your strings lasting longer . For drummers, it will help you keep your grip on your drum sticks and keep other hardware from getting unnecessary grime on them.
